Dominican envoy met Gloria in Oct. on asylum bid – report

Dominican Ambassador Frank Hans Castellanos was in Manila last month and supposedly met with former President Gloria Macapacal-Arroyo, whom the Justice Department claimed may be seeking asylum in the Dominican Republic, Philippine news portal Move.PH reported Friday.
“We learned that in late October, an informant told at least two government officials about ‘credible’ information that Danneberg was in Manila to help Mrs. Arroyo with her plan to seek asylum," the news portal said on its Facebook page.
The Caribbean “diplomat and Mrs. Arroyo area apparently friends, he reportedly paid her a visit in her La Vista residence during his four day visit…" Oct. 25 to Oct. 28, Move.PH added.
In a press briefing on Thursday, Justice Secretary Leila de Lima told reporters she was asking the Department of Foreign Affairs to check on unconfirmed reports that the Dominican Republic already issued a passport under the name of the former President.
The lawyer of First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo on Thursday denied that the Arroyo couple have sought political asylum in the Caribbean country.
"We categorically deny that the former First Couple are holders of Dominican Passports, nor have they sought political asylum in any country. The First Gentleman has never been to the Dominican Republic," said lawyer Ferdinand Topacio
