3 suspects in pregnant exec’s slay nabbed

DAVAO CITY -- Three men tagged in the killing of a pregnant executive inside her office at Mt. Mayon Street in Davao City were arrested.
Mary Grace Pajo Alinea, 27, assistant manager of France Asia International Inc., was three months pregnant when shot dead around 5 p.m. of October 20.
Jerome Miano Asenjo, 28, the gunman, a resident of Barangay G-Baynosa in Tulunan town in North Cotabato, and Jonathan Flores Cagas, 30, a resident of Poblacion Makilala in North Cotabato, who drove the getaway motorcycle, were arrested Monday afternoon at Libra Street in Doña Luisa Subdivision in Mati.
Samuel Gonzaga, a security guard of Montaña Security Agency who allegedly contacted Ansejo and Cagas to kill Alinea, was arrested Tuesday morning at the Shangrila KTV Bar in Agdao.
Senior Inspector Ranulfo Cabañog, Davao City Police Office’s (DCPO) case tracker team leader, said the suspects allegedly received P30,000 for the killing of Alinea.
Cabañog said the victim was believed to be a mistress of a married seaman. The wife of the seaman filed bigamy charges against Alinea before the Regional Trial Court after the former found out the latter’s illicit affairs with her husband.
The case was dismissed when the wife decided not to push through after forgiving her husband.
The police believed that the seaman’s wife was the mastermind of the killing after one of the suspects, Asenjo, admitted he received money from the wife to execute the plan.
"When the wife learned that their (her husband and Alinea) relationship was back to normal, siyempre nagalit, nagmura at ang sabi niloko lang daw siya noong dalawa, kaya ang ginawa niya nag-hire siya ng papatay sa mistress ng asawa niya (After the wife found out that her husband and Alinea are back together, she was angered so she hired killers to target the mistress)," Cabañog said.
Cabañog added that the one tasked to have the plan executed was a cousin of suspect Gonzaga, a certain Jingjing, who resides in Metro Manila.
He said the suspects have long been monitoring the victim’s movements in Davao City since last September.
He also said that a certain Jimboy and Henio were supposed to execute the crime but the two refused. Gonzaga and Cagas contacted another man.
The gunman Asenjo arrived in Davao the day before he killed Alinea.
Cabañog said the three even returned to the city after being hired to kill another target, one Marcelino Ador, who knew about the contract to kill Alinea - apparently to silence him.
But Ador tipped off the police even before the killers could go after him.
Recovered from the possession of the suspects were one caliber .45, a fragmentation grenade, one black Yamaha Vega motorcycle, and three cellular phones.
Meanwhile, the suspects asked the family of Alinea for forgiveness.
"Sa pamilya ni Grace, pasaylua lang jud ko ninyo. Gipit lang ko atong tungura. Kini lang ang akong naisip para isalba pud ang akong pamilya (I ask forgiveness from Grace’s family. I was in dire need of money at that time and this was the only way I could think of to save my family)," Asenjo said.
"Igo lang man ko nag-drive sa motor, pero sa mga transaction sila naman ana. Pasaylua lang ko nga apil ko sa maong insidente (I was merely driving the motorcycle. I was not involved in the whole transaction. I can only apologize because I was caught up in this incident)," Cagas said.
The suspects are detained at the IDMB jail facility, while waiting for a case to be filed against them. (ICT of Sun.Star Davao/Sunnex)
