NPA holds 4 BJMP officials as captives, frees one inmate

Just another joke for the Philippine Government!

KIDAPAWAN CITY – The New Peoples’ Army (NPA) admitted Thursday afternoon setting up a roadblock on the highway in Bukidnon and stopping a Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) vehicle transferring eight inmates to the Davao Penal Colony, thereby freeing one of their own while taking four of his jailors as their captives.

In a press statement, rebel spokesperson Isabel Santiago said the NPA Herminio Alfonso Command set up a checkpoint along the highway in Sitio Maluos, Barangay Sinuda in Kitaotao town and blocked the BJMP vehicle carrying the inmates and escorted at least 11 BJMP personnel.

The communist rebels took with them for questioning four jailors, including Jail Warden Insp. Eric Llamasares, Jail Inspector Murphy Todyog, Special Jail Officer 2 Rogelio Begontes, and Jail Officer 1 Rolando Bajuyo Jr.

Santiago said they were also able to rescue Dennis Rodenas as he was being escorted by his jailor-guards from Ozamis City to Carmen town in Davao del Norte.

“Rodenas, like many Filipinos, is a victim of the unjust Philippine judicial system. He was arbitrarily convicted based on patently false and fabricated charges which were anchored on evidence planted by the Philippine Army-AFP," claimed Santiago.

The rest of the BJMP personnel and inmates were then allowed to proceed to the Davao Penal Colony, according to Santiago.

The rebels took from the BJMP men and carted away 10 firearms, four of which were Armalite rifles and the rest pistols. —MRT/VS GMA News
